The Plan

The committee has been working in cooperation with the City of Loveland Parks and Recreation for several years. The Monument will be built at the entrance of the Loveland Sports Park.

It will include a Loveland High School Vietnam Era Veterans Monument dedicated to the young men and women who joined the military during the Vietnam era. It will also incorporate WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Cold War monuments and monuments dedicated to the many conflicts our military has been involved in including Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Gulf War, Somalia, Desert Storm, Afghanistan OEF, Iraq OIF, and the War on Terror. These monuments will carry rhetoric describing each conflict.

The monument will be both educational and informational.

The Veterans Honor Monument will give the people of Loveland a place for events to be held to honor our military veterans for what they have sacrificed for their country. It will be a place for remembrance, healing and sometimes closure for family, friends, and veterans. This monument will enhance the community’s awareness of what a veteran with PTSD deals with.

Ground Breaking In Tony's Honor

Back in the Spring of 2022 a group of Vietnam era Veterans and friends from Loveland High School got together and formulated a plan to build a Veterans monument in Loveland. While working in cooperation with Parks & Recreation, the Parks manager Dan Willadsen mentioned Tony DuMosch who had worked on the Dewayne Webster Memorial and had been the go-to person when Veteran activities arose. He suggested we contact Tony and he graciously accepted a position on our board. Tony was known by some of our members but we all got to know him quite well over time. Tony was a Navy Veteran and very knowledgeable about military history. During meetings he was our “Roberts Rules” expert, we had some fun with that one. He was caring but tenacious, he listened, he questioned, he shared and even admitted on occasion he learned something from the rest of the group. He was passionate about our project and excited to see it through to the finish line. Tony came to a meeting several months ago and announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A few tears were shed, a few hugs and then the prayers started. He continued to attend meetings and remained involved. It was difficult to sit next to him knowing his fate and have him tell you after we had seconded a motion and asked for a vote that we had to ask if there was any discussion before we voted. He would remind us about “Roberts Rules” and do it with that damn grin on his face. As Tony began to lose his battle with cancer his involvement in person became less but he still participated in meetings by phone and worked trying to raise funds by telephone, e-mail and social media. Tony’s biggest regret shared to the committee was the fact that he always finished what he started, and he would not be with the rest of us to see the Veterans Honor Monument completed. In honor and respect of Tony, the committee decided to hold a groundbreaking ceremony. On November 13, 2024 Tony turned the first shovel to start construction of the Veterans Honor Monument.

On December 5, 2024 Tony DuMosch lost his battle with cancer.  Thank you for remembering.... never forget.
